NFL NEWS_Mike Goodson still sore from neck injury at Raiders camp

NAPA, Calif. -- Oakland Raiders running back Mike Goodson said his neck is still sore, three days after he took a hard hit that sent him to the hospital earlier in the week, but he's relieved there is nothing more serious wrong with him.
"It's kind of like having a crick in your neck when you wake up in the morning or something like that," Goodson said Friday. "A little more intense than that, but that's pretty much it."
Goodson was back out at the practice field for the Raiders for the first time Friday since being taken by ambulance to the hospital after being hit by teammate Philip Wheeler.
Goodson rode an exercise bike during part of practice, NHL 11 Jerseys Blog then watched the rest with his teammates on the field. Goodson said he hasn't been given a target date for when he can practice again, NHL All Star Jerseys Blog but he looks forward to getting on the field as soon as he is cleared by doctors.
"I'm starting to feel like myself again," he said. "As soon as they give me the green light to go, I'm going to be ready to go."
The Raiders acquired Goodson in March from the Carolina Panthers in a trade for offensive linemanBruce Campbell. Goodson is being counted on to compete with Taiwan Jones to be Oakland's backup to star Darren McFadden.
Goodson rushed 125 times for 501 yards and three touchdowns and added 43 receptions for 329 yards in three seasons with the Panthers. Goodson had three consecutive 100-yard rushing games and three touchdowns late in the 2010 season under former coach John Fox in 2010.

NFL blog:Robert Griffin III and Alec Sulkin

NFL

Once again, we do our best to give you the best mix of the NFL and pop culture. With the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and one of the writers of the hit movie “Ted” on the same show, I daresay we’ve achieved that goal.
First up, the savior-in-waiting of the Washington Redskins, RG3 phones in to the show to give us an update on his contract status, his readiness to take the reins, his comfort in the Mike Shanahan offense, his preparation for the intense pressure on the horizon and, perhaps most importantly, how in the world did he wind up on the same “30 Rock” set as Kim Kardashian the night of the NFL draft and was he aware she was looking his way?
Lastly, Alec Sulkin joins us in studio. The long-time “Family Guy” writer, Twitter star and co-author of the bawdy hit film “Ted” also happens to be a diehard Patriots fan. I’m sure all of you who saw “Ted” would be shocked to know Sulkin is from Boston and has lived and died with the Pats his whole life. We hit on several backstories concerning “Ted” and had an overall fun conversation that fans of “Family Guy” and followers of Sulkin’s popular Twitter account — @thesulk — will truly enjoy. If you’ve not been exposed to his world and humor, you’re in for a ride.
Enjoy all!

Rich Eisen Podcast: Matt Hasselbeck

(National Football League)

A week of all football guests kicks off with someone long overdue for an in-studio visit as Titans quarterback and devilishly handsome New England native Matthew Hasselbeck took time out of his L.A. workout schedule to stop by the program for a chat. With a fresh hair cut (our efforts for an all-bald cast nearly complete) and donning a Celtics shmedium T-shirt, Hasselbeck shared his thoughts on everything from his decision to re-sign with the Titans last summer to how close he came to becoming a UCLA Bruin back in the day. You’ll never guess what Boston College head coach Tom Coughlin said to him at the time that made him change his mind. Later in the conversation, the youngest Hasselbeck brother, Nathaniel, joins in to share some stories from Matt’s days with the Packers and growing up in an NFL household. There’s one involving a snowy playoff week in Green Bay you won’t want to miss.
As always, stay tuned for the television program featuring Hasselbeck, Hall of Famer Warren Moon and rookie Jaguars punter Bryan Anger on Thursday at 1:30pm ET only on NFL Network.
Thanks for listening, and enjoy!

NFL blog:NFL rookie symposium begins Sunday in Ohio

The NFL's rookie symposium, which brings together draftees to hear speakers on such subjects as "Are You Bigger Then The Game" and "What Defines Success?", begins Sunday in Aurora, Ohio, with four days of orientation for NFC draft picks. AFC draft choices attend Wednesday through Saturday.

Scheduled to speak are several players who have experienced serious off-field issues, including
Michael Vick, Adam Jones and Michael Irvin. Also on the docket are Terrell Owens, Devin McCourty, Antonio Freeman, LaVar Arrington, Aeneas Williams, NFL Network analyst Jamie Dukes, Luther Ellis and Carl Eller. The symposium also includes a side trip to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in nearby Canton.
Irvin and Eller are Hall of Fame members.
"Each rookie should leave the symposium with the knowledge and history of where our game began, where it is today, and challenged to make a positive personal impact on the future of our game," said Troy Vincent, a retired NFL defensive back and former president of the players' union. "The NFL and its clubs are committed to providing players with the best resources to succeed both on and off the field."
The program will includes presentations and speeches, videos and workshops focused on NFL history, experience, player expectations, and professional and social responsibility. Other topics included player health and safety, decision making and maintaining positive relationships.
"Athletes are not immune to what takes place in society. They are not exempt to societal issues," Vincent said.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
"We do have things in place to help deal with any issues, and we are very proactive in doing so. You have to retrain them or develop a new culture of thinking, and it starts with young men and ladies as they are maturing. This is a challenge not just as a sports organization, but as parents, as mentors and teachers. We welcome that challenge and charge as a league, and hope to become part of a greater conversation, be part of the continuing campaigns to raise awareness of these issues and problems that can come up."

NFL blog:Sam Bradford donates $500K to Oklahoma dorm project

Sam Bradford decided to give back to his alma mater in a big way.

"My experience at Oklahoma made it possible for me to realize my dreams," Bradford said in a press release. "The coaches, the academic environment and every aspect of being a student-athlete at OU made me a better person. I am honored to give back to a program that did so much for me and hope that in some way this contribution can make it possible for those who follow me to enjoy the same kind of experience I did as a Sooner."
The St. Louis Rams' quarterback gave $500,000 to the University of Oklahoma Athletics Department to support the construction of a student housing facility.
Bradford played at Oklahoma from 2006 to 2009, winning the Heisman Trophy and leading the Sooners to the National Championship Game in 2008. He left as the school's all-time leader in passing yardage and became the No. 1 overall pick of the 2010 NFL Draft.
"Sam Bradford's gift is deeply appreciated," University of Oklahoma President David L. Boren said. "It will help many future participants in OU's athletics program. Gifts like Sam's also set an important example for others who have played on our teams in the past." NFL blog
